Audiology

An audiologist is a specialist in normal and impaired hearing and balance who provides assessment, fitting, and orientation of hearing aids and other assistive devices.

Hearing and balance disorders can be assessed, treated, and rehabilitated by an audiologist.

Audiologists also select, fit, and dispense amplification systems such as hearing aids. They work to prevent hearing loss by providing and fitting hearing protection devices, consultation on the effects of noise on hearing, and consumer education. They can also serve as expert witnesses in litigation related to their areas of expertise.

Some audiologists conduct research on hearing, tinnitus, and the balance system.
